Luke's First Birthday
December 29 we celebrated Luke's First Birthday with family and friends. The theme was "Winter ONEderland" which included lots of snowmen and snowflakes. However, it happened to be about 60 degrees outside that day which put a slight damper on the hot chocolate bar. We had a great time celebrating and overall it was a huge success!

Luke loved ripping the paper off the presents. He handed each piece of paper to Mike or someone else sitting close by (no matter how small the piece).

This is a guest post from Mike...so I've been getting more interested in wood-working in the past months and decided to try my first "big" project. We had talked about buying Luke a rocking toy and found a couple of airplanes online that we loved. Instead of buying it, I bought the plans online and began work. What I had hoped to be a Christmas gift turned into a Birthday gift (it almost became a New Year's gift). This is my best project to date and what's even better is that Luke loves it. One feature that makes it very special is that the Walnut parts (the dark wood) are from a tree cut down 40 years ago at Megan's Grandmother's house in Northern Ohio. We hope this becomes a family heirloom that Luke will pass on to his own son (or daughter).

More Christmas (on Sunday) with Grandma McPherson
We loved having my Grandma McPherson (Luke's "G.G.") in town to visit the weekend after Christmas. It was a full visit with a diving meet (Kate placed first!), more Christmas celebrating, shopping, a visit to Krohn Conservatory, birthday party planning, and birthday celebrating! Thanks Grandma for coming to visit and especially for all of your help with Luke's birthday!!

We've been joking that with a birthday just a few days after Christmas and all of the celebrating we do with family from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve Luke is going to think that Christmas is a week long holiday!

Miller/Finke Christmas
After Luke's nap we headed to Verona, KY for more celebrating with the Miller/Finke families. We enjoyed lots of delicious food, an ornament exchange, and quality time with family!
Luke was an expert gift opener by the end of the day.
I love the expression on Luke's face as he is standing behind Liam, his 2nd cousin...he just looks so little!
Luke enjoyed riding the rocking horse...which was good news since Mike had a very special surprise in the workshop for Luke's first birthday!

McPherson Christmas and First Steps
We enjoyed a fun morning and a delicious brunch! If you have never made Paula Dean's French Toast Casserole...I highly recommend it!! It is totally worth every sweet buttery bite!

Sarah made this gift for my dad...isn't the resemblance remarkable! We all love it : ).
The highlight of our Christmas was watching Luke take his first *real* steps!!! He walked from his Nana to me and back again several times (completely unassisted!). How fun that so many people who love him were able to witness this milestone and we even got to snap a few pictures! Everyday he gets better at walking and before we know it he's going to be off and running!!
